A premiere in Belgium: EnviTec Biogas, together with Byont, a leading Dutch energy provider based in Hengelo, has signed its first contract for the construction of a biogas upgrading plant with CO2 liquefaction in Belgium.
“The plant will be connected to an existing biogas facility and, upon its scheduled completion in July 2026, will inject 735 Nm³/h of biomethane into the Belgian gas grid,” reports Maurice Markerink, Managing Director of EnviTec Plant Construction. In addition, 24 tons of bio-LCO2 will be produced on-site every day.
“This enables us to actively contribute to promoting the supply of green energy and the circular economy of CO2,” says Roel Slotman, CEO of Byont.
In addition to implementing the planned EnviThan gas upgrading system with CO2 liquefaction, the Lower Saxony-based biogas plant manufacturer will also be responsible for the conversion of the existing biogas facility.
“This ensures that the entire plant will comply with the latest standards,” Markerink adds.
In addition, two more biogas plants operated by Byont are in the planning and approval phase.
“We also intend to convert these two Dutch plants to biomethane production combined with CO2 liquefaction technology, utilizing EnviTec Biogas’s engineering expertise,” Slotman explains.
Byont develops, operates, and invests in biogas projects across the Benelux region and Germany. The company focuses on converting organic residues into renewable gases such as biomethane and bio-LNG, thereby actively contributing to building a decarbonized energy future.
