DP CleanTech has been awarded a major contract to design, engineer and deliver a 50MWe biomass boiler and flue gas cleaning system for the La Robla Green Project in Castilla y León, Spain — a landmark initiative set to reshape Europe’s renewable fuels landscape.

Spearheaded by Reolum, the €850 million project will combine a 50MWe biomass power plant (Roblum), a 200MW green hydrogen electrolysis facility, and a green e-methanol plant (La Robla Nueva Energia) capable of producing more than 140,000 tonnes of e-methanol fuel annually. The integrated facility will demonstrate how sustainable biomass and carbon capture can create a fully circular, carbon-negative energy ecosystem - a pioneering model for the global renewable fuel production industry.
Boiler combustion gases from the biomass plant will be sent to a dedicated carbon capture plant where biogenic CO2 will be extracted. The electrolysis facility uses renewable power to produce green hydrogen, which will then be combined with the captured biogenic CO₂ to create green e-methanol. The liquid fuel will be used in the hard-to-bate transport sectors as both a direct low-carbon alternative for maritime transport and a feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production.
Strategically located in Spain’s Castilla y León region, the facility will draw on abundant locally sourced agricultural biomass (straw) as a sustainable feedstock supply. The project will drive local employment and economic growth, and supports EU renewable energy and climate goals. The location logistics infrastructure will enable the efficient export of green e-methanol to global markets.
Remarking on the win, DP CleanTech CEO Simon Parker said: “The La Robla Green Project represents a huge step change in sustainability - a complete virtuous circle for short-cycle biomass that turns agricultural biomass into clean energy and sustainable fuels. It embodies DP’s mission to fully valorise this kind of biomass, and it sets a new benchmark for integrated biomass combustion, carbon capture and green fuel production in Europe. We’re immensely proud to contribute our technology and expertise and to partner with the many visionary companies cooperating to realise this transformative project.”
The La Robla Green Project forms a cornerstone of Spain’s national program to establish major renewable hydrogen clusters, driving innovation, investment, and long-term sustainability in Europe’s clean energy economy.
Commenting on its significance, Yann Dumont, founding partner and CEO of Reolum reiterated, "The La Robla Green project will mark a before and after in the path to decarbonization. For this reason, we wanted to have the best partners during the development of our project and including DP CleanTech in the team is a positive step in this direction. The order for this boiler allows us to fine-tune the construction schedule and meet the dates of the October 2022 auction."
